Langtang Gosaikund Circuit 17 days

Trip Overview

Langtang Gosaikunda Circuit Trek is a beautiful journey in Nepal. This trek is a combination of secret Langtang Valley, Holy Gosaikund Lake and rich cultural area Helambu. Langtang Circuit Trek offers breathtaking views of lush forests, picturesque villages, abundant wildlife and the majestic Himalayas.

Having explored the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu the journey begins with a scenic drive to Syabrubesi to embark real trek to Langtang valley. The trekking route passes many traditional settlements and ancient monasteries that have remained unchanged. Reaching Kyanjin Gumba, walking along with Mani walls and climbing to Tserko Ri provides an amazing experience and offers a mesmerizing view of the Langtang Himal ((7,200m). Next, continue trek to Gosaikunda, a pilgrimage site for Buddhists and Hindus. The place is named after the holy lake Gosaikunda and its water is considered to have magical healing power. The lake remains crowded during the festival of Janai Purnima and also believed a dip in the holy lake washes away all the sins of a lifetime. The trek passes several lakes, crosses the Laurebina Pass then enters the Helambu Valley. There are several viewpoints and spots along the trek from where the Himalayan view is so close that you feel they are within touching distance. The closing views of Shishapanga and the Langtang range also make this trek lifetime memorable. The trek continues in Helambu for a few days and takes a drive back to Kathmandu to end the memorable Langtang Circuit Trek.

We consider this trek as a moderate to strenuous trek. So, this route does not necessarily require extreme experiences of climbing. However, your positivity, enthusiasms, and strong determination are mandatory. Although this trek remains open whole year, the most suitable time to travel is March to May and September to December.

Day 11: Shin Gompa to Gosaikunda (4,460m/14,632ft) 5-6hrs

Today we get to enjoy fantastic panoramic views of the Himalayas including the Annapurnas, Hiunchuli, Manaslu, Ganesh and Langtang. We follow a ridge for the most part of the day and catch a glimpse of the first of the holy lakes. The third lake, Gosaikunda (4380m), is of particular religious and cultural significance for the Nepalese and is one of Nepal’s most sought after pilgrimage sites. The lake is surrounded by mountains on almost all sides and has a great ensemble of nine other lakes to accompany it. Every year during Janai Purnima in August, hundreds of Hindu pilgrims visit the lake for a holy bath. The large rock at the center of the lake is said to be the remains of a Shiva shrine.

Day 12: Gosaikunda to Ghopte (3,440m/11,286ft) 6-8hrs

We move around the lake’s shore before ascending towards the Laurebina Pass (4610m). The Helambu region begins at the Lauribina La (pass) and descends to the Melamchi valley. Our trail passes through Surya Kunda before reaching Ghopte.

Day 13: Ghopte to Melamchigaon (2,560m/8,399ft) 6-7hrs

We walk uphill and downhill on a trail that passes through dense forests. Walking on a trail through the forest will take us to Thare Pati Village. We climb a ridge above the village and continue our trek. The view from the ridge of the Nepalese hills and Soli Danda in particular, is beautiful. We cross two suspension bridges before reaching Melamchigaon which is a beautiful village that houses a monastery.

Day 14: Melamchigaon to Tarkeghyang (2,590m/8,497ft) 5-6hrs

We pass a stupa and cross a small stream below Tarkeghyang. Our trail passes through forests that lead up to Ama Yangri which is the highest point of our trek today located at 3,800m. There are a stupa and Buddhist prayer flags at the top of the hill. Furthermore, we get stunning views of Mt. Shishapangma and the Langtang ranges. The mountains are so close that we feel that we can almost touch them. As we descend we can often see yaks grazing in the bushes before entering a forest. We also walk on a trail made of broken stone before reaching Tarkeghyang which is a beautiful Sherpa village.

Day 15: Tarkeghyang to Sermathang (2,610m/8,563ft) 3-5hrs

Tomas and Inma, USA

My girlfriend and I did both the Langtang and Gosaikund Pass Trek with Amazing Nepal Trek and Expedition. We planned our trip from the United States and corresponded regularly with Santosh (one of the co-owner) in Nepal via phone and email. He was very helpful and worked with us to create a custom itinerary. The guide spoke great English! We enjoyed our trip and would book with them again!
