You start this trek on 30 min flight to Lukla, the gateway of the Khumbu region. The trail then ascends through deep rhododendron forests, small Sherpa settlements, and farmlands. Then you enter Sagarmatha National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and reach Namche Bazaar (3,440m/11,287ft).
As you gradually climb higher the temperature drops gradually down. The greenery changes to alpine shrubs and the scenery becomes more dramatic towards the last Sherpa settlement called Gorakshep. You will then stroll along the Khumbu Glacier to Everest Base Camp (5,365m/17,601m) opposite the Khumbu Icefall. Next early morning you will climb up to Kala Patthar (5545m/18192ft), which offers breathtaking views of Everest (8,848m/29,028ft) and other snowcapped peaks. You will find it much faster and easier to return to Lukla through the same route. You can accomplish this trek all year round, however you will find more volume of trekkers during the Spring and Autumn along this famous route.
