Short Island Peak Climb (Chhukung to Chhukung)

Trip Overview

The modest peak of Imja Tse (6189m) is located over the Chhukung Glacier in the middle of Chhukung valley. Sitting pretty between the Lhotse Himal (8414m) and Mount Ama Dablam (6856m), this peak is an island in the sea of snow covered landscape, thus the name Island Peak. A perfect challenge for those working a tight schedule between their busy lives, the Short Island Peak Climb will be a thrilling experience as you take on this strenuous ascent to the summit which will leave you awestruck with a spellbinding view of the Everest, Makalu and Lhotse Himal among others.

Your 4-day Island Peak Climb itinerary starts at Chhukung. A village perched by the Imja river, it is a popular stop for those acclimatizing on their way to Everest Base Camp. Once we arrive at Chhukung, we rest for the day. The next day will be a climb from Chhukung to Island Peak Base Camp. Taking on the rocky terrain we climb steeply before starting a relatively easy hike along the southern side of Lhotse glacier moraine. Further along the glacier, the curvaceous route leads to a valley flanking the Island peak. The path is straightforward from here on. First, we ascend to the high camp and continue to the summit. Steep snow and ice ridges combined with crevasses and boulders will make this challenge all that more exciting. This climb with the summit at 6189 meters is suitable for a beginner ready to enter the exciting world of mountaineering. With very few technical aspects to work on, the climb will be moderately strenuous, however, it is recommended for physically fit trekkers. September to December and March to June are the best seasons to take on this challenge.
