Upper Mustang, also known as the land beyond the Himalayas, stands at the edge of the Tibetan plateau with untouched socio-cultural practices, historically rich archeological sites, and spectacular landscapes. The forbidden kingdom of Mustang, 'Mini Tibet of Nepal', is a restricted trekking zone which has a huge significance as it consists of one of the oldest monasteries and caves waiting to be explored. This tour takes us through captivating landscapes of the dry valleys, amusing towns, and enchanting mountain views in a comfortable private jeep. 
 
Upper Mustang Private Drive Tour begins from the beautiful city of Pokhara and driving through the winding roads we reach Beni, from where the off-road journey starts. Every traveler is bound to be left awestruck at the beauty of the picturesque villages, arid valleys, deep canyons, barren ridges and the eroded cliffs in the journey. With splendid views of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna, we visit some of the major attractions of the area such as the Tatopani, Kaligandaki Gorge, Nyi La Pass, and Muktinath Temple to ultimately reach Lo Manthang. Lo Manthang is the walled city that connects with the Tibet border. It is well-known for its tall white washed the mud-brick wall, centuries-old monasteries, palaces, caves, and certainly the view of the magnificent mountain peaks in Annapurna Himalayan Range and northern Tibetan-Himalayas.  The tour offers an opportunity to explore Lo Manthang in all its glory for two days. There will be time to enjoy not only the iconic locations but also the diverse culture and topography of Upper Mustang. Day 1: Arrive in Kathmandu|1300m
A company representative will be on standby to receive you at the Tribhuvan International Airport. You will be transferred to your hotel and after resting for a while, you will be briefed about the trip. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 2: Kathmandu Cultural Heritage Sightseeing 
Today, we take a tour around the valley and visit some of the marquee sites which reflect the culture and religious beliefs of ancient Nepal. Some of these sites are Pashupatinath temple, Boudhanath stupa, Swayambhunath stupa, and Kathmandu Durbar Square. These sites are also enlisted as world heritage sites by the UNESCO. After a full day of touring around the city, we head back to the hotel. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kathmandu.    

Day 3: Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara|820m|7-8 Hrs by 4WD Jeep
We will drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara following the Trishuli River on our right-side of the Prithivi Highway till Munglin then drives along with the beautiful landscape of green hills to reach Pokhara. The Pokhara city is the most famous tourist hub in the country and gateway to many of the treks and trips in the Annapurna region. We can stroll around the lakeside or visit the various attractions of Pokhara such as Phewa Lake, Davis Fall and so on if time permits. Overnight stay at the hotel in Pokhara.

Day 4: Drive from Pokhara to Tatopani|1140m by 4WD Jeep
After breakfast, we drive from Pokhara through paved and winding roads of the high hills up to Beni, which takes about 3 hours. Then, we continue off-road on the bank of Kali Gandaki River to reach Tatopani. Tatopani means 'hot water', and here one can bathe in the natural hot springs. It is believed that the waters have a healing quality that relieves your aches and pains. Overnight stay at Tatopani.
    
Day 5: Drive Tatopani to Kagbeni|2810m by 4WD Jeep 
We continue driving along rough roads through various villages. Incredible views of Dhaulagiri (8167m), Nilgiri (7061m), and Tukuche Peak (6920m) will accompany us throughout most parts of our journey. We stop at some of the major attractions that come along the way such as the Marpha village, Kaligandaki gorge, Muktinath temple, the temple of salvation, as well as the 108 taps devoted to Lord Vishnu. Once we cross the Kaligandaki River, we reach Kagbeni, which is the main gate to Upper Mustang. Overnight stay at Kagbeni.

Day 6: Drive Kagbeni to Ghami |3520m by 4WD Jeep
Our drive continues to the Upper Mustang area after we cross a permit check-point at the exit point of Kagbeni. Most of the route we take is along the bank of Kali Gandaki River. We pass through various villages like Chhuksang Village, Chele Village, Samar Village, Shyangbochen, and Ghiling among others. We also pass the iconic Nyi La Pass (4010m) before reaching Ghami village. Overnight stay at Ghami.

Day 7: Drive Ghami to Lo Manthang (3840m) on the way visit Tsarang Monastery and Luri Gompa by 4WD Jeep. 
We drive towards the ultimate destination of the tour, Lo-Manthang. The journey moves along scenic views of beautiful hills, glittering white snow-capped mountains, and colorful chortens. We will visit Ghar Gompa, Tsarang Monastery and Luri Gumba on the way to Lo-Manthang. These monasteries reflect the culture from ancient Tibetan times whereas the caves around Luri Gumba are still subject of great mystery. Lo Manthang is a beautiful fortified city having an ancient king’s palace and important monasteries. Overnight stay at Lo Manthang.

Day 8: Explore Lo Manthang|3810m
We visit the Namgyal Gompa, a monastery that lies on a hilltop. Then, the tour continues to Thinggar village, the four stories King Palace with panoramic views of the Himalayas in the backdrop. The influence of Tibetan Buddhism is absolutely massive here and thus the region is nicknamed as Mini Tibet. Overnight stay at Lo Manthang.

Day 9: Exploration continues in Lo Manthang and Choser Cave by 4WD Jeep. 
We continue our exploration of Lo Manthang by visiting places like Choser Monastery, sky caves of Choser and the Garphu Gompa. We will also be able to enjoy the sight of fascinating domestic cattle caravan and Yaks and the local activities of the Tibetan people. Overnight stay at Lo Manthang.

Day 10: Drive from Lo Manthang to Chhuksang|2980m by 4WD Jeep
We start driving back after the captivating exploration around Lo-Manthang. We drive towards Chhuksang with the view of plateau land and the panoramic Himalayas. We pass the Kaligandaki River, Buddhist Stupa, and a few Tibetan Monasteries. After a 5 hour’s long drive, we reach the Chhuksang village. We can explore around the village for the rest o the day. Overnight stay at Chhuksang.

Day 11: Drive to Kalopani (2530m) by 4WD Jeep. 
We leave the Upper Mustang region and enter the lower part of Mustang. Fantastic view of the Himalayas along with the mix of Nepalese and Tibetan culture, Kaligandaki River and the local products and activities of the people accompany us in our journey. We also drive through Jomsom, famous for its apple production and related products. Driving along the sandy banks, we arrive at Kalopani.  Overnight stay at Kalopani.

Day 12: Drive to Pokhara (840m) by 4WD Jeep. 
From Kalopani, we drive back to Pokhara. En route, we can see lush forests, small villages and the local culture of the people. We will reach Pokhara by lunchtime and transfer to the hotel. You can take a stroll around Pokhara lakeside in the evening. We can visit some other tourist attractions like Mahendra Cave, Davis Falls, and Peace Pagoda to name a few.  Overnight stay at a hotel in Pokhara.

Day 13: Drive back to Kathmandu (1340m)
We take a drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu over lush forests, fields, and villages with the superb panorama of the Himalayas. On arrival, you will be transferred to the hotel. You can take a rest or do some souvenir shopping or sightseeing during the remaining time. Also, don’t forget to take some souvenirs back from Nepal. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 14: Final Departure

Accommodations and Meals:

You will be provided a room in a tourist standard hotel, while you are in Kathmandu and Pokhara. During your tour, you will be provided room in teahouses. Please be informed that you will be sharing the room at teahouses. Please also note that the Mustang region is located at far from the maddening crowd, therefore, teahouses may not be as much sophisticated as one finds them in town.

We will provide only breakfast while you are in Kathmandu/Pokhara and three-course meals while you are on tour to Upper Mustang. This means you will be taking breakfast and dinner at teahouse you stay and lunch in the mid of your drive. Since the Mustang region is geographically a remote place, you will be provided only selected but hygienic and organic local foods such as Nepali dal bhat, Tibetan soup, and bread, porridge etc.

Briefing of the Tour:

You will be briefed about the trek, you will be given information file, and importantly introduced with your guide.

Crews:

  • We will provide government registered, well-trained English Speaking guide, who holds enough knowledge about responsible tourism and eco-friendly tourism

Size of Group:

Trekking Group Size of our group can range from two people to ten people. In case you want to travel alone, do not hesitate to write to us. We will plan accordingly. In case, you more than ten people, please do let us know so that we can develop and improvise plans and itinerary.

Acclimatization:

You are taking a ride to high altitude. We give special priority to its technical sides as well. For this, we have designed an itinerary to allow you to get acclimatize naturally. We know the particular location you need to stay for rest, and the particular distance you need to pass and so on. In case you get high altitude sickness, we have crews who know how to deal with it effectively and smartly.

How to respond to Altitude Sickness?

  • Please do carry first aid box
  • Please consult your physician
  • Please keep on informing our crews if you feel uneasy

Travel Insurance:

We would like to recommend you to get your trip insured. Since you are going in probably one of the wildest and challenging routes, you need to be cautious of anything inevitable. You may need helicopter evacuation and get your trip canceled. You may get injured and get your baggage theft and so on.

Permits and fees:

The government local body charges some small amount of fee for every you make to the World Heritage sites, National Park, restricted areas along climbing. The price we charge includes all the fees.
