Often known as Annapurna Khayer Lake Trek, Khopra Danda Trek is one of the marvelous treks in Annapurna region. This trekking route is one of the recently opened trekking courses in Annapurna Areas. Thus, not many trekkers think about this trekking route. This trek is ideal for the families and individuals who are willing to walk on non-touristic trekking course in Annapurna region. Khopra Danda Trek provides amazing views of mountains, pastoral villages, and terraced rice fields. The trek passes through beautiful Gurung Villages and Rhododendron forest and finally takes up to Khayer Lake at  4,500m height above the sea level. The trek also offers breathtaking views of Mt. Dhaulagiri, Annapurna (I, II, III), Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Machhauchhare, Lamjung Himal and Nilgiri. In addition, Poon Hill viewpoint gives a wonderful experience of Sunrise above the glistening Himalaya. Ghandruk is an appealing village which is embellished by ethnic Gurung community and houses made of slate and stones.

Considered as an easy to moderate trek, we confidently confirm that this trek is appropriate for all aged trekkers as well as a novice to experienced climber. Day 01: Arrival day in Kathmandu (1,300m/4,264ft)

Upon your arrival at the Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, you will be greeted by a company representative, who will drop you off at our hotel. After checking in, take a rest or visit Amazing Nepal's office. You may also stroll in the streets of Thamel, a tourist hub in Kathmandu for some souvenir shopping. In the evening, there will be a welcome dinner hosted by Amazing Nepal Trek & Expedition. For dinner, you will be served excellent Nepalese cuisine which will introduce you to the country's authentic food culture. If your flight arrives late, both the meeting and dinner can be scheduled for the following day. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 02: Sightseeing Kathmandu Valley and Preparation for Trekking (1,300m/4,264ft)

After breakfast, you will set out for sightseeing of the culturally and architecturally rich heritage sites of the Valley. Places such as the Pashupatinath, the world famous temple precinct of the Hindus, the Boudhnath and Swaymbhunath, the world famous Buddhist stupa precinct, and Kathmandu Durbar Square will open up completely a new cultural world of Nepali art and architecture to you. You will also be taken to the Kumari Ghar, where resides the Virgin Goddess. We will also discuss the trip, and you will be introduced to your fellow trekkers and our crews.

Day 03: Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara by tourist bus (910 m/2,986 ft) 6-7 hrs, 200km

After breakfast, around 6:30 am transfer to the Tourist bus station and drive to Pokhara by tourist bus. This scenic drive offers fascinating glimpses of rural Nepal as you pass through Middle Hill scenery along with the famous rafting Trishuli River originated from Tibet northeast of Kathmandu. Arrive Pokhara midafternoon.

Day 04: Drive to Kimche and trek to Tadapani (2,520m/8268ft), 2.5hrs drive and 4hrs trek

After early morning breakfast, drive along the zigzag route to Kimche via Nayapul where we commence our trek to Ghandruk. We stop here in this beautiful Gurung village to have quick lunch and leave the village of Ghandruk behind, we hike up to our destination, Tadapani. From Ghandruk, we ascend through the forest of Oak and Rhododendron that is alive with the sound of chirping birds, blooming rhododendron forest, singing waterfalls and the fine view of peaks in the Annapurna region. The settlement of people is almost nil here; however, trekkers can enjoy few teahouses en route. After hiking through the forest, we finally reach Tadapani. We also enjoy the sunset view in the evening. The night will be spent at a lodge in Tadapani.

Day 05: Trek from Tadapani to Bayali (3574m/11725ft) 5-6hrs

Today is the 2nd day of the trek and our destination is Bayali. Leaving the main trail (Annapurna Base Camp Trekking trail), we follow the trail that passes through beautiful rhododendron and oak forest. Initially, the trail ascends gently, which later descends a little. After this small descent, the walk continues upward through rhododendron forest, passing several clearings up till the bigger ridge top clearing at Baisi Kharka. From here we further ascend until we reach Bayeli. The night will be spent at a lodge in Bayeli.

Day 06: Trek from Bayali to Khopra Danda (3650m/11975ft) 4-5hrs

Today is the 3rd day of the trek and our destination is Khopra Danda.  In the morning, we take a short walk above the lodge for sunrise view. We then come back, have breakfast and descend towards the pastures of lower Chistibung. A gradual climb from here through the forest will lead us to Upper Chistibung passing the grassy ridge above the trail. From Upper Chistibung, a steep climb above the tree line through alpine meadows and pastures will take us to Khopra. We then take a walk down Khopra Ridge towards the viewpoint of the spectacular view mountains. The night will be spent at a teahouse in Khopra.

Day 07: Exploration day to visit Khayar Lake (4500m/14763ft) 7-8hrs

Today is the 4th day of the trek and our we spend the day exploring the area. A five-hour hike from Khopra Danda will take us to Khayar Lake, a rarely visited sacred freshwater lake situated at an altitude of 4,500m above the sea level, which is even higher than Annapurna Base Camp. It is believed that the lake is used by leopards to quench their thirst. We spend some time exploring the Khair Barahi temple area, and watching different varieties of birds and walk back to Khopra Danda. The night will be spent at a teahouse in Khopra Danda.

Day 08: Trek from Khopra danda to Swanta (2270m/7447) 5-6hrs

Today is the 5th day of the trek and our destination is Swanta which is a Magar village. From Khopra Danda, an hour of the downward walk will take us to Upper Chistibung.  From here, enjoying the views of Dhaulagiri, terraced fields, and traditional houses, we further descend to Swanta. The night will be spent at a lodge in Swanta.

Day 09: Trek from Swanta to Ghorepani (2,850m/9,350ft) 4-5hrs

Today is the 6th day of the trek and our destination is Ghorepani. Initially, the trail drops down through the village fields and towards a small river, where we can see a small water mill. We cross a suspension bridge and head towards Chitre Village. On reaching Chitre, we meet the main trekking trail, where we can also meet other trekkers trekking different sections of Annapurna region. From here, the trail ascends to Ghorepani. The night will be spent at a lodge in Ghorepani.

Day 10: Ghorepani to Pokhara (910m/2,986ft) 7-8 hrs trek and 1.5 hrs drive

Today is the last day of the trek. Today, early in the morning we hike up to Poon Hill for the sunrise view. We then come back, have breakfast and continue towards ending the trek. Initially, we descend through the forest of Oak and Rhododendron, crossing Nangge Thanti and Banthanti until we reach Ulleri. On reaching Ulleri, following the stone steps, we climb down to Tikhedhungga after crossing a suspension bridge. Then passing few settlements: Hile, Sudame, Lamdawali we finally reach Nayapul to catch a bus to  Pokhara. After about two hours ride, we reach Pokhara. In Pokhara, you will be taken to a tourist standard hotel, where you can take a hot shower and relax your tired muscles. In the evening, you can either relax at your hotel or take a stroll around the lakeside in Pokhara. The night will be spent at a tourist standard hotel in Pokhara.

Day 11: Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu (1,300m/4,265 ft) 6-7 hrs 

Today, from Pokhara we catch a tourist standard bus to Kathmandu. Leaving Pokhara, we head east toward the capital city, Kathmandu. After 7 hours of the drive all the way through Prithvi Highway, we reach Kathmandu. On reaching Kathmandu you will be escorted to your hotel, where you can freshen up and rest for some time. Around the evening, the company representatives conduct a short meeting to discuss the trip, your experience, and feedback. The night will be spent at a tourist standard hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 12: Final Departure

Transfer to the international airport and fly to onward destination

Accommodations and Meals:

You will be provided a room in a tourist standard hotel, while you are in Kathmandu. During your trekking, you will be provided room in teahouses. Please be informed that you will be sharing the room at teahouses. Please also note that the Annapurna region is located at far from the maddening crowd, therefore, teahouses may not be as much sophisticated as one finds them in town.

We will provide only breakfast while you are in Kathmandu and three-course meals while you are on trek. This means you will be taking breakfast and dinner at teahouse you stay and lunch in the mid of your trekking. Since the Annapurna region is geographically a remote place, you will be provided only selected but hygienic and organic local foods such as Nepali dal bhat, Tibetan soup, and bread, porridge etc.

Is this trek appropriate for me?

We ensure Khopra Danda Trek is easy to moderate trek. So, we confidently announce that it is appropriate for children to elderly people. It has rare possibilities of suffering from high altitude and thin air. Though, it requires inspiration and passion which makes your trek successful. Although you have an average health condition, your positive attitude and strong determination can help to accomplish this trek. For making comfortable walking, adjusting to changing climate, our package manages the facility of acclimatization in needed place as well as 5-6 hours walking per day. If you have already accumulated hiking and jugging experiences that will be beneficial to adjust the situation; although if you do not have that is not a big problem. However, Amazing Nepal Trek cordially requests to have medical checking before you plan to start any trekking and hiking.

Briefing of the Tour:

You will be briefed about the trek, you will be given an information file, and importantly introduced with your guide.

Trekking Crews:

We will provide government registered, well-trained English Speaking guide, who holds enough knowledge about responsible tourism and eco-friendly tourism

We will also provide an assistant guide who is ready to help you every situation.

We will provide a porter is provided to every two of you, and he will be carrying not more than 25kg.

After the trek is over, you will be provided with ANTE adventure certificate.

Size of Group:

Trekking Group Size of our group can range from two people to ten people. In case you want to travel alone, do not hesitate to write to us. We will plan accordingly. In case, you more than ten people, please do let us know so that we can develop and improvise plans and itinerary.

Acclimatization:

Trekking to the Annapurna Region is as much difficult as it is technical. We give special priority to its technical sides as well. For this, we have designed an itinerary to allow you to get acclimatize naturally. We know the particular location you need to stay for rest, and the particular distance you need to walk slowly and so on. In case you get high altitude sickness, we have crews who know how to deal with it effectively and smartly.

Travel Insurance:

We would like to recommend you to get your trekking insured. Since you are trekking in probably one of the wildest and challenging routes, you need to be cautious of anything inevitable. You may need helicopter evacuation and get your trip canceled. You may get injured and get your baggage theft and so on.

Permits and fees:

The government local body charges some small amount of fee for every you make to the World heritage sites, Conservation areas, National Parks, and restricted areas along climbing. The price we charge includes all the fees.

Except for your day pack, all luggage will be carried by porters. A porter is available for two people who will carry maximum up to 25 kg. So, You have to be careful while packing your Bag or luggage.
 
Moreover, There is an allowance of 15kg per person on the domestic flights. Additional personal items are not needed for the trekking portion of the trip which can be kept in the hotel’s storage room without extra cost.
